The Series Continues.

For the past several years, I have been working on a photo project I like to call, True Story: The Vans Shoe Series. I got the idea years ago when one summer I tried to learn to skate. I couldn't quite get the hang of it (I blame it on being pigeon toed) so I started to shoot photos of my homeboys skating and inserted my shoes, my trusty checkerboard vans, into the shots. WAALAA.... a series was born. This year, I've been fortunate enough to have been able to travel to some really cool places so I decided to document my travels through the perspective of my kicks. Below are a few of my favorites!

Luke x NYC

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing the gifted tattoo artist Luke Wessman in New York. We spent the afternoon shooting portraits in my favorite neighborhood, the lower east side, and also got to hop on the Staten Island Ferry. The ferry is so awesome because not only is it a beautiful ride, it's also free. It doesn't get better than that! Luke was great to work with; super photogenic and easy to shoot. We got a lot of great shots from our session and I can't wait to share them. In the mean time, here are a few from our trip on the ferry. If you are in New York, you can catch Luke at the NY INK shop, The Wooster Street Social Club or on the west coast at his shop, Lucky's Tattoo.

Street Player

I had the honor of photographing the legendary Ric Salinas, founding member of the performance trio Culture Clash for the SF Guardian last week. Ric will star in the play, Placas, which opens this Thursday at the Lorraine Hasberry Theater in downtown San Francisco. The play deals with powerful themes of gang life, fatherhood and redemption. I got to see a very small portion of the show during a rehearsal and I can tell you that this is definitely a play not to be missed.

FILM POR VIDA is coming to San Francisco and I am really happy to be apart of the photo show.

I got turned on to the site by my homie Austin a few years ago and have been exchanging mail with the creator of the site, Jai Tanju, along with dozens of photographers from all over the world ever since. This week I got the chance to photography my favorite Panamanians, the unbelievable talented duo, Los Rakas in NYC. The fellas were in town preforming with the Spanish MC Mala Rodriquez so while they were here, I meet up with them in Brooklyn at the Panamanian restaurant Kelso's. Below is a sneak peak.
